Theresia Degener – A letter to my sixteen year old self

By adminitsmylife
A woman is sitting outside. She wears a red jacket and has short grey hair, red lipstick and glasses. She is sitting on what appears to be a low wall or concrete step and behind the sky is blue and there are trees and a manicured lawn.

Dear Theresia, I am writing to you when I am just about to reach 60. I would like to tell … More Theresia Degener – A letter to my sixteen year old self →

Earlier this year I ran a workshop series for youn Earlier this year I ran a workshop series for young disabled people, aged 15 to 24 years of age. Over 3 sessions the group discussed topics such as the language of #disability, #disabilitypride, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (#UNCRPD), #advocacy and peer support.

I'm so thankful to all the young people who attended for the great discussions & for helping to make it such an inclusive space. Opportunities to explore these concepts with peers are all too rare, especially outside of research project or other structures. I’m very thankful for the support of all my colleagues in Centre for Disability Law and Policy and funding support from @fordfoundation.

Pictured are some of the workshop attendees and their certificates when we met up virtually to celebrate.

Happy International Women's Day! Article 6 CRPD Happy International Women's Day!

Article 6 CRPD is about women and girls with disabilities. It says that countries who sign up to the CRPD understand that women and girls with disabilities can be treated unfairly in lots of ways and because of this they should make sure they put laws and other measures in place to give women and girls the same chances and human rights as other people.
